Trolls, Batch, and Jingle Bells

Mrs. Ruff shared a story with me when I picked up Jonathan from Kindergarten last week. The Kindergarten class listened to classical music while making an art project. Jonathan recognized the piece and said, "That's In the Hall of the Mountain King!". He then told Mrs. Ruff the story about the song. I was amazed that he remembered! It's been awhile since we listened to the song and read about it on wikipedia. "In the Hall of the Mountain King" is "a fantasy story written in verse, Peer Gynt tells of the adventures of Peer. The sequence illustrated by the music of In the Hall of the Mountain King is when Peer sneaks into the Mountain King's castle. The piece then describes Peer's attempts to escape from the King and his trolls after having insulted his daughter."

On Saturday Jonathan came out of his room and announced, "I found Batch in G on my computer!". It made us smile when we realized that he was speaking of Bach in G.

This morning Jonathan accompanied Jingle Bells from "The Gift" recording on his computer. He was standing in front of his computer with his recorder (which he calls a flute) playing the rhythm to Jingle Bells all on the same note.
